Breakdown of Feasibility Study
The Andersonstown Gateway Feasibility Study will involve the following stages:
- Reviewing other plans and studies that have already been done in the area or are being done now that might help or make a difference to this study.
- Consideration as to how land is being used now and whether this could be used better in the future.
- Discussions with a range of organisations including the West Belfast Partnership Board, Greater Andersonstown Neighbourhood Partnership, local political representatives and various government organisations and agencies.
- Bringing all the information together into one document.
- Using the information to develop realistic and sustainable objectives for the economic development of the area and to list potential sites for development.
- A number of sites will be selected and criteria developed against which the sites can be tested against each other.
- The study will be used to help inform future decisions regarding potential options for action.
- The findings of the study with a proposed roadmap for delivery will then be presented to the community in a public session. All the community will be welcome to attend this.
Feasibility Study Q&A
What is the Andersonstown Gateway Project?
In November 2007 the Minister for Social Development announced her plans for a feasibility study into the development of a commercial hub within the Andersonstown Gateway Area. This is the area within the boundaries of Kennedy Way, Glen Road and the Andersonstown Road. Click here to view the map.
The study will look at development options for a number of sites throughout the area and will make recommendations for preferred options for individual and zoned site assemblies. The study began in May 2008. The West Belfast and Greater Shankill Enterprise Council has been commissioned to undertake this study.
What is a feasibility study?
A feasibility study helps to show if an idea is good or not before spending any money on it. This study will determine options for the possible development of sites within the Andersonstown gateway area that will benefit the local community and wider West Belfast. The study will not guarantee development of sites but rather will help inform future decisions regarding potential options for the future use of sites.
Who will drive this process?
A group has been set up to oversee the feasibility study. The group includes representatives from the Department for Social Development's Belfast Regeneration Office, the Department of Enterprise, Trade & Investment, Belfast City Council, the NI Housing Executive, Business in the Community, the Strategic Investment Board, the West Belfast Partnership Board and the West Belfast & Greater Shankill Enterprise Council, as well as local political representation reflective of the area.
So what's next?
The Andersonstown Gateway feasibility study began during May 2008. A public session will be held when the study has been completed. This will provide an opportunity for the local community to provide comment on the study and its results. Further details of when and where the public session will take place will be advertised in local newspapers and on this website.
